He continued his studies in music throughout his childhood and adolescence, studying piano, composition, and music theory. In 1974, Antoine enrolled in the music program at the Université de Montréal, where he studied composition with Gilles Tremblay and Serge Garant. He also studied piano with Yvonne Hubert and chamber music with the Quatuor Alcan. During his time at the university, Antoine began to develop his own unique style of composition, which blended elements of classical music with modern techniques. After graduating from the Université de Montréal in 1978, Antoine began to establish himself as a composer. He received commissions from a variety of organizations, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. His works were performed by some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles in Canada and around the world. One of Antoine's most notable works is his Symphony No. 1, which he composed in 1982.
