Brian Newhouse is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the music industry. He was born in 1963 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up in a family that valued music. His father was a choir director, and his mother was a pianist, which exposed him to music at an early age. Newhouse's passion for music started when he was a child. He began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the trumpet. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he studied music and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance. After college, Newhouse pursued a career in music and worked as a freelance trumpet player in the Twin Cities area. He also worked as a music educator, teaching music to students of all ages. In 1992, he joined Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) as a classical music host and producer. Newhouse's work at MPR allowed him to showcase his talent and passion for classical music. He hosted and produced several programs, including "Music with Minnesotans," "Classical Music with Brian Newhouse," and "Choral Music with Brian Newhouse." He also served as the host of the Minnesota Orchestra's live broadcasts on MPR. Newhouse's work at MPR earned him several awards and recognitions. In 2000, he received the Gabriel Award for his work on "Music with Minnesotans." In 2003, he received the Gracie Award for his work on "Choral Music with Brian Newhouse." He also received the George Foster Peabody Award in 2011 for his work on "American Mavericks." Newhouse's passion for classical music led him to pursue a career as a conductor. He studied conducting with Dale Warland and worked as a guest conductor for several orchestras and choirs. In 2011, he was appointed as the conductor of the Minnesota Chorale, a position he held until 2019. As a conductor, Newhouse led the Minnesota Chorale in several performances, including the world premiere of "Considering Matthew Shepard" by Craig Hella Johnson. The performance received critical acclaim and was later released as a recording. Newhouse also conducted the Minnesota Chorale in several performances with the Minnesota Orchestra, including Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Mahler's Eighth Symphony. Newhouse's work as a conductor and music educator has inspired many young musicians. He has served as a mentor to several young conductors and has taught conducting at St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota.
