Mozart Akademie Amsterdam is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1987 by the Dutch conductor and pianist Jaap ter Linden. The ensemble is named after the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose music is a central part of their repertoire. The founding members of the ensemble were all highly skilled musicians who shared a passion for classical music and a desire to perform together. In addition to Jaap ter Linden, the original members included violinists Ryo Terakado and Sayuri Yamagata, violist Rainer Zipperling, cellist Jaap ter Linden, and harpsichordist Jacques Ogg. This ambitious project involved recording all 27 of Mozart's piano concertos over the course of several years, and it received critical acclaim for its musicality and technical excellence. In addition to their recordings, Mozart Akademie Amsterdam has also performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, appearing at major music festivals and concert halls. Some of their most notable performances include appearances at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The ensemble has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 1992, they were awarded the prestigious Edison Award for their recording of Mozart's complete piano concertos. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, and have won the Diapason d'Or and the Choc de la Musique. One of the unique aspects of Mozart Akademie Amsterdam is their commitment to performing on period instruments, which are replicas of the instruments that would have been used during the time of Mozart and other classical composers.
