The Ambache Chamber Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over three decades. Founded in 1984 by the British pianist and conductor, Diana Ambache, the orchestra has become a leading exponent of chamber music, performing across the globe and receiving critical acclaim for its innovative programming and outstanding musicianship. Diana Ambache, who was born in London in 1946, had a passion for music from an early age. She studied piano at the Royal College of Music and later at the Juilliard School in New York. She also trained as a conductor under the tutelage of Sir Adrian Boult and Sir Charles Mackerras. In 1984, she founded the Ambache Chamber Orchestra with the aim of promoting the works of female composers and exploring lesser-known pieces from the classical repertoire. The orchestra's core members include some of the finest musicians in the UK, including violinists Catherine Manson and Elizabeth Turnbull, violist Louise Williams, cellist Josephine Horder, and double bassist Chi-chi Nwanoku. Over the years, the ensemble has collaborated with a range of distinguished soloists, including pianist Joanna MacGregor, clarinetist Michael Collins, and soprano Susan Bullock. One of the highlights of the Ambache Chamber Orchestra's career was its performance at the BBC Proms in 1994. The orchestra played a program of works by female composers, including Ethel Smyth, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Clara Schumann. The concert was a resounding success, with the orchestra receiving a standing ovation from the audience and critical acclaim from the press. In 1995, it was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for its promotion of the works of female composers.
