Milen Paounov is a Bulgarian classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a pianist, conductor, and composer. Born on May 5, 1981, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Paounov showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons with some of the best teachers in Bulgaria. Paounov's early years were marked by a series of impressive achievements. At the age of 11, he won first prize in the National Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Bulgaria. Two years later, he was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Varna, Bulgaria. These early successes set the stage for a career in music that would take him around the world. In 1997, Paounov moved to the United States to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, he continued to hone his skills as a pianist and began to explore other aspects of music, including conducting and composition. He studied with some of the most renowned musicians in the world, including Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jerome Lowenthal, and John Corigliano. Paounov's talent as a pianist was quickly recognized by the music world. In 2001, he won first prize at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition in South Carolina. This was followed by a series of other awards and honors, including the Juilliard School's William Petschek Piano Debut Award in 2003 and the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship in 2004. In addition to his work as a pianist, Paounov also began to establish himself as a conductor and composer. He conducted his first orchestra at the age of 19 and went on to conduct a number of other orchestras, including the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and the New York Youth Symphony. As a composer, he has written a number of works for piano, orchestra, and chamber ensembles. Paounov's career has been marked by a number of notable performances. In 2005, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the Rising Stars series. He has also performed at other prestigious venues around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. In addition to his work as a performer, Paounov has also been active in music education. He has taught at a number of institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Sofia National Academy of Music in Bulgaria. He has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world. Paounov's contributions to the world of classical music have not gone unnoticed. In 2010, he was awarded the Order of Stara Planina, one of Bulgaria's highest honors, for his contributions to Bulgarian culture. He has also been recognized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and the Bulgarian National Radio. Today, Paounov continues to perform, conduct, and compose music. He is known for his virtuosic piano playing, his innovative compositions, and his passionate conducting style. He remains committed to sharing his love of music with audiences around the world and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
