sfSound is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in San Francisco, California. The group was founded in 1999 by a group of musicians who were interested in exploring new and experimental music. Since its inception, sfSound has become one of the most respected and innovative ensembles in the Bay Area. The founding members of sfSound were Kyle Bruckmann, Matt Ingalls, John Ingle, and Tom Djll. These musicians were all active in the Bay Area music scene and had a shared interest in exploring new and experimental music. They began rehearsing together and soon realized that they had a unique chemistry and a shared vision for the future of classical music. Over the years, sfSound has grown and evolved, with new members joining and others leaving. Today, the ensemble is made up of a core group of musicians, including Kyle Bruckmann (oboe), Matt Ingalls (clarinet), John Ingle (saxophone), Tom Djll (trumpet), Monica Scott (cello), and Hadley McCarroll (piano). These musicians are all highly skilled and experienced performers who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the ensemble. One of the hallmarks of sfSound is its commitment to exploring new and experimental music. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered works by a wide range of composers, including Larry Polansky, Brian Ferneyhough, and Christian Wolff. In addition to performing new works, sfSound also performs classic works from the contemporary classical music canon, such as pieces by John Cage and Morton Feldman. sfSound has performed at a wide range of venues and festivals throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Some of the ensemble's most notable performances include a residency at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, a performance at the Other Minds Festival, and a concert at the Berkeley Art Museum. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of other artists and ensembles, including the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. In addition to its performances, sfSound has also received a number of awards and accolades over the years. In 2005, the ensemble was awarded a grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission to support its performances and commissions. In 2010, sfSound was named one of the "Top 10 Classical Music Events of the Year" by the San Francisco Chronicle. Overall, sfSound is a unique and innovative ensemble that is pushing the boundaries of contemporary classical music.
