Role:EnsembleNetwork for New Music is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1984 by composer and pianist Linda Reichert, the group has become a leading force in the performance and promotion of new music in the United States. Reichert, a graduate of the Juilliard School and the University of Pennsylvania, was inspired to create Network for New Music after attending a concert of contemporary music in New York City. She saw a need for a similar organization in Philadelphia, where new music was not being given the attention it deserved. With the help of a group of like-minded musicians, Reichert founded Network for New Music with the goal of bringing new and innovative music to audiences in Philadelphia and beyond. The early years of Network for New Music were marked by a series of successful concerts and collaborations with other artists and organizations. In 1986, the group presented its first concert, featuring works by Reichert and other contemporary composers. The concert was well-received, and Network for New Music quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and commitment to new music. Over the years, Network for New Music has collaborated with a wide range of composers, performers, and organizations. The group has commissioned and premiered hundreds of new works, including pieces by such notable composers as Jennifer Higdon, Richard Wernick, and George Crumb. In addition to its work with living composers, Network for New Music has also performed works by historical figures such as John Cage, Igor Stravinsky, and Arnold Schoenberg. One of the highlights of Network for New Music's history was its performance at the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. The group was invited to perform as part of the festival's celebration of contemporary music, and its performance was widely praised for its energy and creativity. In addition to its performances, Network for New Music has also been recognized for its contributions to the field of contemporary music. The group has received numerous awards and grants, including the prestigious ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming and the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Fellowship. Today, Network for New Music continues to be a vital force in the world of contemporary classical music. The group's performances are known for their high level of musicianship and their commitment to new and innovative music. With its dedication to commissioning and performing new works, Network for New Music is helping to shape the future of classical music and ensure that it remains a vibrant and relevant art form for generations to come.More....
