During his time at the academy, Illés composed several works, including his first string quartet, which was performed at the academy's annual concert. After graduating from the academy, Illés began working as a freelance composer and conductor. He composed music for various ensembles, including orchestras, chamber groups, and soloists. His works were performed in Hungary and other countries in Europe, including Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands. One of Illés' most notable works is his Symphony No. 1, which he composed in 2005. The symphony is a four-movement work that showcases Illés' mastery of orchestration and his ability to create complex musical textures. The symphony was premiered by the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zoltán Kocsis, and received critical acclaim. Illés also composed several chamber works, including his String Quartet No. 2, which was premiered by the Keller Quartet in 2008.
