Camil Geis was a Czech composer and pianist who lived from 1879 to 1943. He was born in the town of Klatovy, in what is now the Czech Republic. Geis showed an early aptitude for music, and began studying piano and composition at a young age. He went on to study at the Prague Conservatory, where he was a student of the renowned composer Antonín Dvořák. Geis's early works were heavily influenced by the Romantic tradition, and he was known for his lush harmonies and expressive melodies. He was also interested in incorporating elements of Czech folk music into his compositions, and many of his works feature folk-inspired themes and rhythms. One of Geis's most notable early works is his Piano Concerto in F minor, which he composed in 1903. The concerto is a virtuosic showcase for the soloist, with sweeping melodies and intricate passagework. It was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and helped to establish Geis as a rising star in the Czech music scene.
