Richard Contiguglia is a renowned classical pianist and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 22, 1948, in New York City, Richard grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Anthony Contiguglia, was a pianist and composer, and his mother, Mary Contiguglia, was a singer. Richard's parents recognized his musical talent at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Richard began his formal music education at the age of six, studying piano with his father. He later studied with renowned pianists such as Rosina Lhevinne, Adele Marcus, and Mieczyslaw Munz. Richard's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he won numerous awards and competitions throughout his youth. In 1966, Richard graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in New York City and went on to study at the Juilliard School. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in 1970 and his Master of Music degree in 1971. During his time at Juilliard, Richard studied with legendary pianist and teacher Rosina Lhevinne, who had a profound impact on his musical development. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Richard embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, appearing as a soloist with major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Richard has also performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. In addition to his career as a performer, Richard has also made significant contributions to music education. He has served on the faculty of several prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Miami. Richard has also given masterclasses and workshops throughout the world, sharing his knowledge and expertise with aspiring musicians.
