Nathalie Gauvin is a Canadian soprano who has established herself as one of the leading interpreters of Baroque and Classical music. Born in Quebec City in 1963, Gauvin grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. She studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec and later at the Université Laval, where she earned a degree in musicology. Gauvin's career began in the early 1990s, when she made her debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. She quickly gained a reputation for her clear, agile voice and her ability to convey the emotional depth of the music she sang. In 1994, she made her European debut at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, where she performed in Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito." Over the next few years, Gauvin continued to perform in Europe and North America, building a loyal following among fans of Baroque and Classical music. She became particularly known for her interpretations of Handel's operas, which she performed with a number of leading orchestras and conductors. In 2000, Gauvin received the prestigious Prix Opus for "Best Female Singer of the Year" from the Conseil québécois de la musique. One of Gauvin's most memorable performances came in 2004, when she sang the role of Cleopatra in Handel's "Giulio Cesare" at the Glyndebourne Festival in England. The production was widely praised for its innovative staging and Gauvin's powerful performance. In 2006, Gauvin released her first solo album, "Cantatas for Soprano," which featured works by Bach, Handel, and Scarlatti. The album received critical acclaim and helped to establish Gauvin as a leading interpreter of Baroque music. In recent years, Gauvin has continued to perform and record extensively, collaborating with a wide range of musicians and conductors.
