Christopher Taylor is a renowned classical pianist known for his virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical repertoire. Born in 1974 in Boulder, Colorado, Taylor began playing the piano at a young age and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the New England Conservatory of Music and later at the University of Michigan, where he earned his doctorate in piano performance. Throughout his career, Taylor has been recognized for his exceptional musicianship and has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1993, he won the prestigious Naumburg International Piano Competition, which launched his career as a soloist. He has also been a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Paul A. Fish Memorial Prize. Taylor has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also collaborated with renowned conductors such as James Levine, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. One of Taylor's most notable performances was his 2000 debut at Carnegie Hall, where he performed Bach's Goldberg Variations on a specially designed piano that allowed him to play both the original keyboard and the bass line simultaneously. The performance was hailed as a groundbreaking interpretation of the piece and cemented Taylor's reputation as an innovative and daring performer. In addition to his work as a soloist, Taylor is also a dedicated chamber musician and has collaborated with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles. He is a founding member of the New York-based ensemble, the Naumburg Award-winning ensemble, and has also performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Emerson String Quartet. Taylor is also a respected educator and has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 2000. He is known for his passionate and engaging teaching style and has mentored many young pianists who have gone on to successful careers in music.
