Richard Katz was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Katz showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Katz's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue music seriously. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Under her guidance, Katz developed a deep understanding and appreciation for classical music. At the age of 12, Katz made his debut performance at Carnegie Hall, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. The performance was a huge success, and Katz received critical acclaim for his technical skill and musicality. Over the years, Katz continued to hone his skills and develop his own unique style. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. He then went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he received a Master of Music degree. Throughout his career, Katz has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Gustavo Dudamel. One of Katz's most memorable performances was his rendition of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, also known as the "Emperor" concerto. He performed this piece with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising Katz's technical skill and emotional depth. Katz has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2008, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He was also a recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award in 2010, which is awarded every four years to pianists of exceptional talent. In addition to his performances, Katz is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He is also a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music. Despite his success, Katz remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
