Eugene Albulescu is a renowned classical pianist and professor of music at the University of Iowa. Born in Romania in 1969, Albulescu began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest, where he was mentored by some of the country's most esteemed musicians. In 1989, Albulescu moved to the United States to continue his studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and a Master of Music degree in piano performance and literature. He also studied with renowned pianist Ian Hobson, who would become a major influence on his career. After completing his studies, Albulescu embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in venues around the world. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed at prestigious festivals such as the Ravinia Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Festival Internacional de Música de Cámara de Aguascalientes in Mexico. Albulescu has won numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1995, he was a finalist in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. He has also won first prize in the San Antonio International Piano Competition, the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, and the Iowa Piano Competition. In addition to his career as a performer, Albulescu is also a highly respected educator. He has been a professor of music at the University of Iowa since 1997, where he teaches piano and chamber music. He has also served as a guest professor at universities around the world, including the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China and the National University of Music in Bucharest. Albulescu is known for his passionate and expressive performances, as well as his deep knowledge of the classical repertoire. He has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of the complete piano works of George Enescu. He is also a sought-after collaborator, having performed with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
