Ensemble Musagète is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1989 in Moscow, Russia. The ensemble is named after the Greek god of music, Musagète, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances. The founding members of Ensemble Musagète were four young musicians who had recently graduated from the Moscow Conservatory: Tatiana Grindenko (violin), Levon Ambartsumian (violin), Sergei Astashonok (viola), and Alexander Zagorinsky (cello). The ensemble quickly gained recognition for its unique sound and approach to classical music, which blended traditional techniques with contemporary styles. One of the highlights of Ensemble Musagète's early career was its performance at the 1990 Tanglewood Music Festival in Massachusetts, USA. The ensemble received critical acclaim for its interpretation of works by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Shostakovich. This performance helped to establish Ensemble Musagète as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music ensembles of its time. Over the years, Ensemble Musagète has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians of our time, including pianist Martha Argerich and conductor Valery Gergiev. In addition to its live performances, Ensemble Musagète has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. These include albums of works by Shostakovich, Schnittke, and Prokofiev, as well as a recording of the complete string quartets of Beethoven. Ensemble Musagète has received numerous awards and accolades throughout its career. In 1992, the ensemble was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Chamber Music Competition in Bordeaux, France. The following year, Ensemble Musagète was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award for its recording of Shostakovich's String Quartets Nos. 1, 2, and 3. Despite changes in its membership over the years, Ensemble Musagète has remained committed to its mission of bringing innovative and dynamic performances of classical music to audiences around the world. Today, the ensemble continues to perform and record, and its members are recognized as some of the most talented and innovative musicians in the classical music world.
