Simonson's breakthrough came in 2001 when he won the prestigious Gaudeamus International Composers Award for his work "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra." The piece was praised for its innovative use of orchestration and its ability to blend traditional classical music with modern elements. Following his success at the Gaudeamus International Composers Award, Simonson's career took off, and he began receiving commissions from orchestras and ensembles around the world.
