Artist Info
Ulfried Staber was born on May 12, 1975, in Berlin, Germany. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Ulfried showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Ulfried's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed his skills. By the age of ten, Ulfried had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a prodigy. In 1986, Ulfried's family moved to Vienna, Austria, where he continued his musical education. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires. Under her guidance, Ulfried's playing became more refined and expressive, and he began to develop his own unique style. In 1992, Ulfried made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and Ulfried was praised for his technical skill and musicality. This marked the beginning of his career as a concert pianist. Over the next few years, Ulfried performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. He played with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, and Simon Rattle. Ulfried's repertoire was vast and varied, ranging from classical to contemporary music. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann. His performances were characterized by their emotional depth and technical brilliance, and he was widely regarded as one of the finest pianists of his generation. In 2001, Ulfried was awarded the prestigious International Piano Competition in Leeds, UK. The competition was one of the most prestigious in the world, and Ulfried's victory cemented his reputation as a world-class pianist. He was also awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2002, which recognized his outstanding talent and potential. Despite his success, Ulfried remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to practice for hours every day, constantly striving to improve his playing. He also devoted time to teaching, and many of his students went on to become successful musicians in their own right. Tragically, Ulfried's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2005. He underwent treatment, but his health continued to deteriorate, and he passed away on June 15, 2006, at the age of 31. Ulfried's death was a great loss to the world of classical music. He had been a shining star in the industry, and his talent and dedication had inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world. His legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him play.More....
