Juan Falu is a renowned Argentine composer, guitarist, and music educator who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 29, 1958, in Tucumán, Argentina, Falu grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Eduardo Falu, was a famous Argentine folk musician, and his mother, Mirtha Arce, was a pianist. Falu's parents recognized his musical talent at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Falu began his musical training at the age of six, studying classical guitar with his father. He later studied with other renowned guitarists, including Abel Carlevaro and Eduardo Isaac. Falu's early exposure to Argentine folk music and classical guitar laid the foundation for his unique style of composition, which blends elements of both genres. In 1980, Falu graduated from the National University of Tucumán with a degree in music education. He then went on to study composition with Gerardo Gandini and Francisco Kröpfl at the National University of La Plata. During this time, Falu began to develop his own style of composition, which drew on his knowledge of classical music and Argentine folk music. Falu's early compositions were heavily influenced by the music of his father, Eduardo Falu. He wrote several pieces for guitar, including "Suite Argentina," which was inspired by Argentine folk music. In 1983, Falu won first prize in the National Composition Competition for his piece "Canción y Danza," which was later recorded by the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Falu continued to compose and perform music, both as a solo artist and as a member of various ensembles. He collaborated with other musicians, including the Argentine composer and pianist Lito Vitale, and performed at festivals and concerts throughout Argentina and Europe. In 1995, Falu released his first solo album, "De Raíz," which featured his own compositions as well as traditional Argentine folk songs. The album was well-received by critics and helped to establish Falu as a leading figure in the world of Argentine music. Falu's subsequent albums, including "Cantares de la Tierra" (1998) and "Canciones de la Argentina" (2001), continued to showcase his unique blend of classical and folk music. He also composed music for film and television, including the soundtrack for the Argentine film "El Faro" (1998). In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Falu has also been a dedicated music educator. He has taught guitar and composition at the National University of Tucumán and the National University of La Plata, and has conducted workshops and masterclasses throughout Argentina and Europe. Falu's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2002, he was awarded the Konex Award for Best Instrumentalist in the Folklore category. He has also been recognized by the Argentine National Academy of Folklore and the Argentine Society of Authors and Composers. Today, Juan Falu continues to compose, perform, and teach music. His unique style of composition, which blends elements of classical and folk music, has made him a leading figure in the world of Argentine music. His dedication to music education has also helped to inspire a new generation of musicians and composers.
