Quatuor Fandango is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2002 in Paris, France. The group consists of four members: violinists Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabédian and Arnaud Thorette, violist Miguel da Silva, and cellist Eric-Maria Couturier. The ensemble's name, Fandango, is derived from a lively Spanish dance that was popular in the 18th century. The group's repertoire reflects this Spanish influence, as well as a broader range of classical music styles. Quatuor Fandango has performed at major venues and festivals throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Some of their most notable performances include appearances at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Gautier Capuçon. In addition to their live performances, Quatuor Fandango has released several recordings. Their debut album, "Fandango," was released in 2005 and features works by Spanish composers such as Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo. They have also recorded works by Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven. Quatuor Fandango has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2004, they won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany. They have also been awarded the Diapason d'Or, a French music award, for their recordings. Despite their success, Quatuor Fandango remains committed to exploring new musical territory and pushing the boundaries of classical music. They continue to perform and record, and their unique blend of Spanish and classical music styles has earned them a dedicated following around the world.
