Born in 1951 in Phoenix, Arizona, Rosen began playing the cello at the age of six. She was inspired by her mother, who was a pianist, and her father, who was a music lover. Rosen's parents encouraged her to pursue music, and she began taking lessons with a local cello teacher. Rosen's talent was evident from an early age, and she quickly progressed in her studies. She attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with Leonard Rose, one of the most prominent cellists of the 20th century. Rosen also studied with Channing Robbins and Bernard Greenhouse, both of whom were influential in her development as a musician. After completing her studies at Juilliard, Rosen embarked on a career as a professional cellist. She quickly established herself as a sought-after performer, and she has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and chamber ensembles. Rosen has also been a member of several prominent chamber groups, including the Mendelssohn String Quartet and the Da Capo Chamber Players. One of Rosen's most significant achievements was her tenure as the cellist of the Mendelssohn String Quartet. She joined the group in 1997 and remained a member until its disbandment in 2010. During her time with the quartet, Rosen performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
