William Daman was a prominent English composer of the Renaissance period. He was born in the year 1540 in the town of Canterbury, England. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he received his musical education at the Canterbury Cathedral. He was a chorister at the cathedral and later became a lay clerk. Daman's musical career began in the mid-16th century when he started composing music for the church. His music was highly regarded during his time and was performed in many churches across England. One of Daman's most famous works is his setting of the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel."
