Richard Fields was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical violinist. From a young age, Fields showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Fields received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Fields won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 2004. After graduating from Juilliard, Fields began his professional career as a concert pianist, performing in major venues around the world. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic pianists of his generation, known for his virtuosic technique and passionate interpretations of classical repertoire. One of Fields' most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2007, where he performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "dazzling technique and emotional depth," while The Washington Post called him "a pianist of extraordinary talent and sensitivity." Fields has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Valery Gergiev. In addition to his concert career, Fields is also an active recording artist. He has released several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas. His recordings have received numerous awards and accolades, including a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Instrumental Solo in 2012. Fields is also a dedicated teacher and mentor to young musicians. He has served on the faculty of several prestigious music schools, including the Curtis Institute of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is known for his passionate and inspiring teaching style, and many of his students have gone on to successful careers as professional musicians. Throughout his career, Fields has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards for young musicians in the United States. He has also been named a Steinway Artist, an honor reserved for the world's most accomplished pianists. Despite his many accomplishments, Fields remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record regularly, always striving to push the boundaries of his art and inspire audiences around the world.
