Jan Markvart was born on May 12, 1985, in Prague, Czech Republic. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Jan showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Jan's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, winning his first competition at the age of six. Jan continued to excel in his studies and went on to attend the Prague Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Ivan Klánský. During his time at the conservatory, Jan participated in numerous competitions and won several awards, including first prize at the International Piano Competition in Brno in 2003. He also performed in various concerts and recitals, showcasing his exceptional talent and musicality. After completing his studies at the conservatory, Jan continued his education at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he earned a master's degree in piano performance. During this time, he also participated in masterclasses with world-renowned pianists such as András Schiff, Murray Perahia, and Alfred Brendel. Jan's career as a professional pianist began to take off after he won first prize at the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna in 2008. This prestigious award opened many doors for him, and he began to receive invitations to perform in concerts and festivals around the world. One of the highlights of Jan's career was his performance at the Prague Spring International Music Festival in 2010. He was invited to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Jiří Bělohlávek. The performance was a huge success, and Jan received a standing ovation from the audience. Jan's talent and musicality have also been recognized by the recording industry. He has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas, which was released in 2012. The album received rave reviews from critics and was praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to his solo career, Jan is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist Jan Mráček and cellist Tomáš Jamník.
