Brenes continued her musical studies at the National University of Costa Rica, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. She then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the University of Michigan, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Logan Skelton. During her time at the University of Michigan, Brenes won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Earl V. Moore Award for Excellence in Music Performance.
