Born in London, England, in 1976, Michael began playing the cello at the age of six. He was a student at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with William Pleeth and later with Steven Doane at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Michael's career as a professional cellist began in 1998 when he joined the Lindsay Quartet as their cellist. The quartet was one of the most respected chamber ensembles in the world, and Michael's tenure with them lasted until 2005.
