Cârneci's career as a pianist began in the early 1980s when she won several international piano competitions, including the George Enescu International Piano Competition in Bucharest and the Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona. Her performances were praised for their technical brilliance, musical sensitivity, and emotional depth. In addition to her career as a pianist, Cârneci also established herself as a conductor, leading orchestras in Romania and abroad. She held this position until 1998 and led the orchestra in many successful performances and recordings. Cârneci's achievements as a musician have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1990, she was awarded the Romanian Order of Cultural Merit for her contributions to the arts. She has also received the George Enescu Prize, the highest honor in Romanian music, and the Medal of Honor from the Romanian Academy.
