He received his first formal training in music at the Zurich Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Walter Frey. In addition to his performing career, Leimer was also a dedicated music educator. Leimer's contributions to the world of music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1951, he was awarded the Prix de Lausanne, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. He was also a recipient of the Swiss Music Prize, the Steinway Award, and the National Music Council Award. Despite his many accomplishments, Leimer remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He continued to perform and teach well into his later years, and his legacy as a musician and educator continues to inspire generations of musicians today. Kurt Leimer passed away on December 12, 1993, at the age of 81.
