The Poznan Chamber Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Poznan, Poland. The choir was founded in 1947 by Stefan Stuligrosz, a prominent Polish conductor and composer. Stuligrosz was a graduate of the Poznan Conservatory and had previously conducted the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra. He founded the choir with the aim of promoting choral music in Poland and abroad. The choir started out as a small group of amateur singers, but quickly grew in size and reputation. In the early years, the choir performed mainly in churches and community centers in and around Poznan. However, as their reputation grew, they began to perform in major concert halls and festivals throughout Poland and Europe. One of the highlights of the choir's early years was their performance at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. The choir was invited to represent Poland at the fair and performed a series of concerts that were well-received by audiences and critics alike. This performance helped to establish the choir's reputation as one of the leading choral ensembles in Europe. Over the years, the Poznan Chamber Choir has performed a wide range of choral music, from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works. They have collaborated with many leading composers and conductors, including Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutoslawski, and Henryk Gorecki. The choir has also recorded numerous albums, many of which have received critical acclaim and awards. One of the choir's most notable performances was their participation in the 1991 premiere of Penderecki's "Credo" at the Vatican. The performance was attended by Pope John Paul II and was broadcast live on television throughout Europe. The choir's performance was widely praised for its precision and emotional depth. In addition to their performances, the Poznan Chamber Choir has also been recognized for their contributions to choral music. They have received numerous awards and honors, including the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Gloria Artis Medal for Cultural Merit. The choir has also been invited to participate in many international choral competitions, where they have won numerous awards and prizes. Despite the many accolades and achievements, the Poznan Chamber Choir remains committed to their mission of promoting choral music and sharing their love of music with audiences around the world. They continue to perform regularly and to collaborate with composers and conductors to create new and innovative works of choral music. Their dedication and passion for music have made them one of the most respected and beloved choral ensembles in the world.
