George Weiss, Hugo Peretti, and Luigi Creatore were three of the most successful songwriters and producers of the 20th century. Together, they wrote and produced some of the most iconic songs in the history of popular music, including "Can't Help Falling in Love," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," and "Twistin' the Night Away." George Weiss was born on April 9, 1921, in New York City. He grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. After graduating from high school, he attended the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied composition and orchestration. Hugo Peretti was born on December 6, 1916, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians and began playing the trumpet at a young age. After graduating from high school, he worked as a session musician and arranger for various record labels. Luigi Creatore was born on December 21, 1921, in New York City. He grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. After graduating from high school, he attended the Juilliard School of Music, where he studied composition and orchestration. The three men first met in the early 1950s, when they were all working as songwriters and producers for various record labels. They quickly discovered that they had a shared love of music and a talent for writing catchy, memorable songs. Their first big hit came in 1956, when they wrote and produced "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for the Tokens. The song became an instant classic and has since been covered by countless artists, including the Beach Boys, R.E.M., and Billy Joel. Over the next few years, Weiss, Peretti, and Creatore continued to write and produce hit songs for a variety of artists, including Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, and Perry Como. In 1961, they wrote and produced "Can't Help Falling in Love" for Presley, which became one of his biggest hits and has since become a beloved classic. In addition to their work as songwriters and producers, Weiss, Peretti, and Creatore also founded their own record label, Avco Records, in the late 1960s. The label was home to a number of successful artists, including the Stylistics and the Spinners. Throughout their careers, Weiss, Peretti, and Creatore remained dedicated to their craft and continued to write and produce hit songs well into the 1980s. They were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985 and continued to be celebrated for their contributions to popular music until their deaths. George Weiss passed away on August 23, 2010, at the age of 89. Hugo Peretti passed away on May 1, 1986, at the age of 69. Luigi Creatore passed away on December 13, 2015, at the age of 93. Today, their music continues to be beloved by fans around the world and their legacy as some of the greatest songwriters and producers of all time remains secure.
