The Irish Tenors are a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998. The group consists of three main members: Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan. The ensemble is known for their powerful and emotional performances of traditional Irish songs, as well as their renditions of classical music. The Irish Tenors were formed by music producer Bill Hughes, who was looking to create a group that would showcase the rich musical heritage of Ireland. He approached Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan, all of whom were accomplished singers in their own right, and asked them to join forces to form the Irish Tenors. Finbar Wright is a classically trained tenor who has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also released several solo albums, including "Because" and "Whatever You Believe." Anthony Kearns is a lyric tenor who has performed at some of the world's most famous venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House. He has also released several solo albums, including "With a Song in My Heart" and "The Irish Tenor." Ronan Tynan is a tenor who is known for his powerful voice and his inspiring life story. Tynan was born with a lower limb disability and had both of his legs amputated below the knee when he was 20 years old. Despite this setback, he went on to become a world-renowned tenor and has performed at some of the world's most famous venues, including the White House and Madison Square Garden. He has also released several solo albums, including "My Life Belongs to You" and "The Dawning of the Day." The Irish Tenors made their debut performance in 1998 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. The concert was a huge success, and the group quickly gained a following both in Ireland and abroad. They went on to release their first album, "The Irish Tenors," in 1999, which became a best-seller and helped to cement their place as one of the world's premier classical music ensembles. Since their debut, the Irish Tenors have performed at some of the world's most famous venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Royal Albert Hall. They have also performed for several world leaders, including President Bill Clinton and Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to their live performances, the Irish Tenors have also released several albums, including "We Three Kings," "Heritage," and "Ireland." Their albums have sold millions of copies worldwide and have earned the group several awards and accolades. One of the highlights of the Irish Tenors' career was their performance at the funeral of Senator Edward Kennedy in 2009. The group performed "Danny Boy" and "The Lord's Prayer" at the service, which was attended by several world leaders and dignitaries. Another highlight of the Irish Tenors' career was their performance at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The group performed "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears" and "Danny Boy" at the opening ceremony, which was watched by millions of people around the world. The Irish Tenors have also been recognized for their contributions to music and culture. In 2003, they were awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to American society. They were also awarded the National Heritage Award by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2004.
