Ruth Weigelt was born on May 12, 1985, in Berlin, Germany. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Ruth showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Ruth's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking lessons with renowned violinists in Germany and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. At the age of 12, Ruth won first prize in the prestigious Jugend musiziert competition, which is a national competition for young musicians in Germany. After completing her studies in Germany, Ruth moved to the United States to attend the Juilliard School in New York City. There, she studied with some of the most renowned violinists in the world, including Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. During her time at Juilliard, Ruth won several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis. Ruth's career as a professional musician began shortly after graduating from Juilliard. She was invited to perform with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Her performances were met with critical acclaim, and she quickly became known as one of the most talented violinists of her generation. In addition to her work as a soloist, Ruth was also a dedicated chamber musician. She was a founding member of the Weigelt Quartet, which quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest string quartets in the world. The quartet performed at major music festivals around the world and recorded several critically acclaimed albums. Throughout her career, Ruth received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to classical music. She was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, one of the highest honors given by the city of Berlin, and was also named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. In 2015, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music. Despite her success, Ruth remained humble and dedicated to her craft. She was known for her tireless work ethic and her commitment to bringing classical music to new audiences. She was also a passionate advocate for music education and worked tirelessly to promote music education programs in schools and communities around the world. Tragically, Ruth's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2018. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, she passed away on June 15, 2019, at the age of 34. Her death was a great loss to the classical music world, but her legacy lives on through her recordings and the countless musicians she inspired throughout her career.
