Solstice Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1994 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The quartet is made up of four talented musicians who are dedicated to performing and promoting classical music. The members of the quartet are violinists Tricia Wu and Kumiko Sakamoto, violist Ethan Filner, and cellist Hannah Addario-Berry. The founding members of Solstice Quartet, Tricia Wu and Kumiko Sakamoto, met while studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. They were soon joined by Ethan Filner and Hannah Addario-Berry, both of whom were also studying at the conservatory. Since its founding, Solstice Quartet has become known for its dynamic and engaging performances. The quartet has performed at numerous venues throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the San Francisco Symphony Hall. They have also performed internationally, with tours in Europe and Asia. One of the highlights of Solstice Quartet's career was their performance at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. The quartet was selected to perform at the Olympic Village, where they played for athletes and visitors from around the world. The performance was a great success, and the quartet received widespread acclaim for their skill and artistry. Solstice Quartet has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "Solstice," was released in 2000 and received critical acclaim. The album features works by Beethoven, Shostakovich, and Ravel, among others. Their second album, "Solstice II," was released in 2005 and features works by Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert. In addition to their performances and recordings, Solstice Quartet is also committed to promoting classical music education. The quartet has worked with numerous schools and community organizations to provide music education and outreach programs. They have also served as artists-in-residence at several universities, including the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Nevada, Reno. Solstice Quartet has received numerous awards and honors throughout their career. In 2001, they were awarded the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant, which allowed them to work with schools and community organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. They were also awarded the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music Grant in 2003, which supported their recording of "Solstice II."
