He was a flutist, conductor, and composer who made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Allt's passion for music began at a young age, and he started playing the flute when he was just nine years old. Allt's musical talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly became a prodigy on the flute. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. Allt continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with the renowned flutist Julius Baker. After completing his studies, Allt began his career as a flutist, performing with various orchestras and ensembles. He was a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years, serving as the principal flutist for much of that time. Allt was also a founding member of the Canadian Chamber Ensemble, which was formed in 1954. Allt's talent as a flutist was widely recognized, and he received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1952, he won the prestigious Eaton's National Music Competition, which helped to launch his career. Allt was also a recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts' prestigious Molson Prize in 1982. In addition to his work as a flutist, Allt was also an accomplished conductor and composer. He conducted the Toronto Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, and he was the conductor of the Canadian Chamber Ensemble for many years.
