Samuel Levine was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Levine showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Levine's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division when he was just six years old. There, he studied under the tutelage of renowned violinists such as Dorothy DeLay and Itzhak Perlman. Levine's dedication and hard work paid off, and he quickly became one of the top students in his class. In 2003, Levine graduated from the Juilliard School with a Bachelor of Music degree. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with violinist Ida Kavafian. During his time at Curtis, Levine won several awards and competitions, including the Philadelphia Orchestra's Albert M. Greenfield Competition and the Astral Artists National Auditions. After completing his studies at Curtis, Levine began his professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations of classical repertoire. In 2008, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto under the baton of Lorin Maazel. Since then, Levine has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time, such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Simon Rattle. In addition to his solo career, Levine is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with some of the most renowned ensembles in the world, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri String Quartet. He is also a founding member of the Trio Solisti, a piano trio that has been praised for its "passionate and insightful" performances. Levine's discography includes several critically acclaimed recordings, including his debut album, "Samuel Levine: Virtuoso Violin," which features works by Paganini, Sarasate, and Wieniawski. He has also recorded the complete Beethoven violin sonatas with pianist Jeremy Denk, which was released to great acclaim in 2019.
