The Abramyan Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has gained international recognition for its exceptional performances and recordings. The quartet was founded in 2008 by four talented musicians, all of whom had already established themselves as accomplished performers in their own right. The founding members of the Abramyan Quartet are violinists Ani and Ida Kavafian, violist Steven Tenenbom, and cellist Peter Wiley. Ani and Ida Kavafian are sisters who were born in Istanbul, Turkey, and raised in the United States. They have both had successful careers as soloists and chamber musicians, and have performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras. Steven Tenenbom is a highly respected violist who has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, among others. Peter Wiley is a cellist who has played with the Guarneri Quartet and the Beaux Arts Trio, and has also served as principal cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The Abramyan Quartet takes its name from its benefactor, Armenian-American philanthropist and music lover Arshak Abramyan. Abramyan has been a generous supporter of the quartet since its inception, providing financial assistance and helping to promote its performances. Since its founding, the Abramyan Quartet has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The quartet has also been featured at numerous music festivals, including the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the La Jolla Music Society SummerFest, and the Chamber Music Northwest Festival. One of the highlights of the Abramyan Quartet's career was its performance at the 2010 Nobel Prize Concert in Stockholm, Sweden. The quartet was invited to perform as part of the celebration honoring the Nobel Prize laureates, and its performance was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world. The Abramyan Quartet has also received numerous awards and accolades for its recordings. In 2012, the quartet's recording of the complete Beethoven string quartets was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by The New York Times. The quartet has also received Grammy nominations for its recordings of the string quartets of Bela Bartok and Dmitri Shostakovich. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Abramyan Quartet is committed to music education and outreach. The quartet has conducted master classes and workshops for young musicians at schools and universities around the world, and has also worked with community organizations to bring classical music to underserved audiences. The Abramyan Quartet's success can be attributed to the exceptional talent and dedication of its members, as well as their commitment to preserving and promoting the rich tradition of classical music. With its innovative programming, virtuosic performances, and commitment to education and outreach, the Abramyan Quartet has established itself as one of the most important and influential classical music ensembles of our time.
