Kate Howden is a British mezzo-soprano who has established herself as one of the most exciting and versatile classical music artists of her generation. Born in 1989 in the town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England, Howden showed an early interest in music and began singing in choirs and taking piano lessons at a young age. After completing her secondary education, Howden went on to study music at the University of York, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors. During her time at York, she was a member of the university's chamber choir and performed in a number of operas and other musical productions. Following her graduation, Howden continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she earned a Master of Arts degree in vocal performance. While at the Academy, she studied with renowned vocal coaches such as Lillian Watson and Audrey Hyland, and performed in a number of high-profile productions, including Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Handel's "Messiah." After completing her studies, Howden began to establish herself as a professional classical music artist, performing in a wide range of venues and productions across the UK and Europe. She quickly gained a reputation for her powerful and expressive voice, as well as her ability to bring a wide range of musical styles and genres to life. One of the highlights of Howden's early career was her performance in the 2014 production of Benjamin Britten's "The Rape of Lucretia" at the Aldeburgh Festival. The production, which was directed by Neil Bartlett and conducted by Oliver Knussen, received widespread critical acclaim, with Howden's performance in particular being singled out for praise. In the years that followed, Howden continued to build her reputation as a versatile and dynamic performer, appearing in a wide range of productions and venues across the UK and Europe. She has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
