Role:EnsembleGenre:ChamberVocalThe Capitol Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of classical and contemporary music for over two decades. The quartet was founded in 1991 by four accomplished saxophonists, who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to explore the possibilities of the saxophone as a classical instrument. The founding members of the Capitol Quartet were Christopher Creviston, Joseph Lulloff, David Stambler, and Andrew Dahlke. All four musicians had impressive credentials, having studied at some of the most prestigious music schools in the United States, including the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, and the University of North Texas. They also had extensive experience performing with orchestras and other ensembles, both in the United States and abroad. From the beginning, the Capitol Quartet set out to challenge the traditional boundaries of classical music, exploring a wide range of musical styles and genres. They were particularly interested in incorporating jazz and other popular music into their repertoire, and they quickly gained a reputation for their innovative and eclectic programming. Over the years, the Capitol Quartet has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. They have also collaborated with some of the most celebrated musicians of our time, including Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and the Emerson String Quartet. One of the highlights of the Capitol Quartet's career was their performance at the 2005 World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The quartet was invited to perform as part of the opening ceremony, and their performance was met with enthusiastic applause from the international audience. This performance helped to cement the Capitol Quartet's reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting classical music ensembles of our time. In addition to their performances, the Capitol Quartet has also been recognized for their recordings. They have released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Liquid Melancholy," which was named one of the top classical albums of 2007 by the New York Times. They have also been featured on numerous radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and PBS's "Great Performances." Throughout their career, the Capitol Quartet has received numerous awards and honors for their contributions to classical music. In 2001, they were awarded the Chamber Music America/WQXR Record Award for their album "American Music for Saxophone Quartet." They have also been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and the American Composers Forum. Today, the Capitol Quartet continues to push the boundaries of classical music, exploring new styles and genres and collaborating with some of the most exciting musicians of our time. They remain committed to their mission of bringing classical music to new audiences and inspiring the next generation of musicians.More....
