Artist Info
Atalante is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in London, UK, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances that blend traditional repertoire with contemporary works. The founding members of Atalante were violinist Sophie Barber, cellist Jenny Lewisohn, and pianist Thomas Primrose. All three musicians had studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and had performed extensively as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. Atalante quickly gained a reputation for its high-energy performances and innovative programming, which often featured lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces. The ensemble's repertoire spans a wide range of styles and periods, from Baroque and Classical to contemporary and experimental music. Over the years, Atalante has collaborated with a number of renowned musicians and composers, including pianist Stephen Hough, violinist Tasmin Little, and composer Nico Muhly. The ensemble has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Aldeburgh Festival. One of Atalante's most notable performances was its debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2010, where the ensemble performed a program of works by Schumann, Brahms, and Dvorak. The concert was praised by critics for its "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." In 2012, Atalante released its debut album, "The London Connection," which featured works by British composers such as Elgar, Bridge, and Vaughan Williams. The album received critical acclaim and was named one of the "Top 10 Classical Albums of 2012" by The Telegraph. In addition to its performances and recordings, Atalante is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has worked with organizations such as the London Music Masters and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Atalante has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the St. James's Piccadilly Chamber Music Prize in 2010 and the Royal Overseas League Ensemble Prize in 2012. The ensemble was also a finalist in the prestigious Parkhouse Award in 2013. Today, Atalante continues to be one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles in the UK. With its commitment to both traditional repertoire and new music, and its dedication to education and outreach, the ensemble is sure to remain a fixture in the classical music world for years to come.More....
