Role:EnsemblePeriod:RenaissanceGenre:ChoralEcco la Musica is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in the Netherlands and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances. The founding members of Ecco la Musica were violinist Merel Vercammen, cellist Amber Docters van Leeuwen, and pianist Tobias Borsboom. All three musicians had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. From the beginning, Ecco la Musica set out to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music, from the Baroque era to contemporary works. The ensemble's name, which means "Here is the Music" in Italian, reflects its commitment to bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world. Over the years, Ecco la Musica has expanded its membership to include other talented musicians, including violist Georgy Kovalev and clarinetist Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer. The ensemble's core members, however, remain Vercammen, Docters van Leeuwen, and Borsboom. One of the highlights of Ecco la Musica's career was its performance at the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2012. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the Concertgebouw's "Rising Stars" series, which showcases the most promising young musicians from around the world. The performance was a resounding success, with critics praising the ensemble's "exquisite musicianship" and "passionate playing." The concert also marked the release of Ecco la Musica's debut album, which featured works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. Since then, Ecco la Musica has gone on to perform at some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated musicians of our time, including pianist Menahem Pressler and violinist Janine Jansen. In addition to its performances, Ecco la Musica has also been recognized for its recordings. The ensemble's second album, which featured works by Ravel and Debussy, was awarded the prestigious Edison Classical Award in 2016. Ecco la Musica's repertoire is diverse and eclectic, ranging from the classics of the chamber music canon to contemporary works by living composers. The ensemble is known for its innovative programming, which often juxtaposes works from different eras and styles to create a unique and compelling musical experience. One of the ensemble's most ambitious projects was its "Bach Marathon," which took place in 2018. Over the course of 24 hours, Ecco la Musica performed all of Bach's six Brandenburg Concertos, as well as other works by the composer. The marathon was a feat of endurance and musicianship, and was hailed as a triumph by critics and audiences alike. Ecco la Musica's commitment to education and outreach is also an important part of its mission. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has also developed innovative programs for schools and community groups. In 2019, Ecco la Musica launched its "Music for the Mind" program, which uses music to promote mental health and well-being. The program includes concerts, workshops, and other events that explore the therapeutic power of music.More....
