The Lario Chamber Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Como, Italy. Founded in 2005, the orchestra has become known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. The ensemble was founded by a group of musicians who were passionate about chamber music and wanted to create a platform for themselves and other local musicians to perform together. The founding members included violinists Marco Rizzi and Luca Fanfoni, violist Luca Sanzò, cellist Francesco Dillon, and double bassist Gabriele Ragghianti. Since its founding, the Lario Chamber Orchestra has grown to include a core group of around 20 musicians, as well as guest performers for specific projects. The ensemble is known for its versatility, performing a wide range of repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music. One of the highlights of the Lario Chamber Orchestra's early years was its collaboration with the renowned Italian pianist and conductor, Andrea Lucchesini. In 2007, Lucchesini conducted the orchestra in a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466. The concert was a great success and helped to establish the orchestra's reputation as a top-quality ensemble. In 2009, the Lario Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at the prestigious Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy. The festival, which was founded in 1958 by the composer Gian Carlo Menotti, is one of the most important cultural events in Italy and attracts top performers from around the world. The Lario Chamber Orchestra's performance at the festival was highly acclaimed and helped to raise the ensemble's profile both nationally and internationally. In addition to its performances in Italy, the Lario Chamber Orchestra has also toured extensively in Europe and Asia. In 2012, the ensemble performed in China as part of the Italian Culture Week, a series of events organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Italian culture abroad. The orchestra's performances in China were a great success and helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as a top-quality chamber orchestra on the international stage. Over the years, the Lario Chamber Orchestra has collaborated with many renowned soloists and conductors, including violinist Salvatore Accardo, cellist Mario Brunello, and conductor Daniele Gatti. The ensemble has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21 with pianist Andrea Lucchesini. In recognition of its achievements, the Lario Chamber Orchestra has received several awards and honors. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is considered the highest honor in Italian classical music. The award is given annually by the Italian National Association of Music Critics to the best performers and productions of the year. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Lario Chamber Orchestra is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly holds workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, and has collaborated with local schools and community organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience. In conclusion, the Lario Chamber Orchestra is a highly respected and versatile ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music.
