His father was a professional musician, and his mother was a teacher. From a young age, Father Amvrosy showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Father Amvrosy's musical talent was recognized early on, and he was accepted into the Moscow Conservatory at the age of 16. He studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher Lev Naumov. During his time at the conservatory, Father Amvrosy won several awards and competitions, including the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1974. After completing his studies at the conservatory, Father Amvrosy began his career as a concert pianist. He performed extensively throughout Russia and Europe, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic performances. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Russian composers such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. In addition to his career as a musician, Father Amvrosy was also deeply committed to his faith. He became a monk in the Russian Orthodox Church in 1989 and was ordained as a priest in 1993. He continued to perform as a pianist, but his music became increasingly intertwined with his religious beliefs.
