He grew up in a family of musicians, and his father was a composer and conductor. Tacuchian began his musical studies at a young age, and he showed a natural talent for music. He studied piano, composition, and conducting at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro. After completing his studies, Tacuchian began his career as a composer and conductor. He worked as a conductor for the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater. He also taught music theory and composition at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Tacuchian's music is influenced by Brazilian folk music, as well as European classical music. He has composed works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. His music is known for its rhythmic complexity and use of Brazilian rhythms. One of Tacuchian's most famous works is his "Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra." The concerto was commissioned by the Brazilian guitarist Turibio Santos and premiered in 1981. The concerto is known for its virtuosic guitar writing and use of Brazilian rhythms. Another notable work by Tacuchian is his "Sinfonia dos Orixás" (Symphony of the Orixás). The symphony is based on the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé and is divided into four movements, each representing a different orixá (deity).
