Anthony Romaniuk is a Canadian-born classical pianist and harpsichordist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire. Born in 1985 in Edmonton, Alberta, Romaniuk began his musical studies at a young age, showing a natural talent for the piano. He went on to study at the University of Alberta, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. After completing his undergraduate studies, Romaniuk moved to Europe to further his musical education. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, where he earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance. During his time in Germany, Romaniuk also began to explore the world of historical performance practice, studying harpsichord with renowned early music specialist Ketil Haugsand. Romaniuk's interest in historical performance practice led him to pursue further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, one of the world's leading institutions for the study of early music. There, he studied harpsichord with Jörg-Andreas Bötticher and received a Master of Arts degree in Historical Keyboard Instruments. Since completing his studies, Romaniuk has established himself as a leading performer in the world of early music. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, North America, and Asia, appearing at major festivals and concert series such as the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Boston Early Music Festival, and the Tokyo Early Music Festival. Romaniuk's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance, musical sensitivity, and innovative approach to interpretation. He is known for his ability to bring fresh insights to familiar repertoire, as well as for his championing of lesser-known works from the Baroque and Classical periods. In addition to his performing career, Romaniuk is also an active recording artist. He has released several critically acclaimed albums, including a recording of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord, which was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "clarity, precision, and musicality." Romaniuk's achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2012, he was awarded the prestigious Förderpreis Alte Musik, a prize given by the city of Basel to outstanding young performers in the field of early music. He has also been a finalist in several international competitions, including the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges and the International Bach Competition in Leipzig. Despite his success, Romaniuk remains committed to exploring new avenues in his music-making. He is known for his willingness to experiment with different instruments and performance styles, and for his dedication to uncovering the hidden depths of the music he performs. In recent years, Romaniuk has also become increasingly involved in the world of contemporary music. He has collaborated with several composers on new works for the harpsichord, and has premiered pieces by composers such as Michael Finnissy and James Dillon. Through his performances, recordings, and collaborations, Anthony Romaniuk has established himself as one of the most exciting and innovative musicians of his generation.
