Arturo Corrales is a contemporary classical music composer from Honduras. He was born on August 28, 1973, in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. Corrales grew up in a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known composer and conductor in Honduras. From a young age, Corrales showed a keen interest in music and began studying piano and composition at the National Conservatory of Music in Tegucigalpa. Corrales continued his music education in the United States, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from the University of North Texas in 1997. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Michigan in 1999. During his time in the United States, Corrales studied with renowned composers such as William Bolcom, Michael Daugherty, and Samuel Adler. After completing his studies, Corrales returned to Honduras and began working as a composer and conductor. He has been the conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Honduras since 2003 and has also served as the music director of the National Conservatory of Music in Tegucigalpa. Corrales has composed a wide range of works, including orchestral, chamber, and vocal music. His music is often inspired by the culture and traditions of Honduras, and he incorporates elements of Honduran folk music into his compositions. One of his most well-known works is his Symphony No. 1, which was commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra of Honduras and premiered in 2005. The symphony is a tribute to the people of Honduras and incorporates elements of Honduran folk music, such as the marimba and the garifuna drum. In addition to his symphonic works, Corrales has also composed a number of chamber music pieces. One of his most notable chamber works is his String Quartet No. 1, which was commissioned by the Cuarteto Latinoamericano and premiered in 2007. One of his most well-known vocal works is his song cycle Canciones de Cuna, which was commissioned by the soprano Ana Maria Martinez and premiered in 2010.
