He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Hans-Jurgen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Hans-Jurgen's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed his skills. By the age of ten, he had already won several local piano competitions. In 1986, Hans-Jurgen was accepted into the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Klaus Hellwig. During his time at the conservatory, Hans-Jurgen honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. After graduating from the conservatory in 1995, Hans-Jurgen began performing professionally. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile pianist, capable of playing a wide range of styles and genres. He performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, and was invited to play with some of the world's leading orchestras. One of the highlights of Hans-Jurgen's career came in 2001, when he was invited to perform at the prestigious Salzburg Festival. He played a solo recital to critical acclaim, and his performance was hailed as one of the highlights of the festival. In 2005, Hans-Jurgen was awarded the prestigious German Music Prize, one of the highest honors in the country's music industry.
