Artist Info
Ensemble Tactus is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in Montreal, Canada, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of music from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. The founding members of Ensemble Tactus were Olivier Fortin, Elin Söderström, and Mélisande Corriveau. Fortin, who serves as the ensemble's artistic director, is a renowned harpsichordist and organist who has performed with some of the world's leading early music ensembles. Söderström is a soprano who specializes in early music and has performed with ensembles such as Les Voix Baroques and La Chapelle de Québec. Corriveau is a viola da gamba player who has performed with ensembles such as Les Voix Humaines and La Nef. Since its founding, Ensemble Tactus has grown to include a number of other musicians, including singers, instrumentalists, and dancers. The ensemble's repertoire includes a wide range of music from the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, including works by composers such as Josquin des Prez, Claudio Monteverdi, and Johann Sebastian Bach. One of the highlights of Ensemble Tactus's early career was its performance at the Montreal Baroque Festival in 2013. The ensemble's performance of Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 was widely praised for its energy, precision, and musicality. The ensemble also received critical acclaim for its performances of Bach's St. John Passion and Handel's Messiah. In 2014, Ensemble Tactus released its debut album, "Le Concert Spirituel," which featured music by French Baroque composers such as Jean-Philippe Rameau and François Couperin. The album was well-received by critics and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading early music ensembles in Canada. In 2016, Ensemble Tactus was awarded the prestigious Prix Opus for "Discovery of the Year" by the Conseil québécois de la musique. The award recognized the ensemble's outstanding performances and contributions to the early music scene in Quebec. In addition to its performances and recordings, Ensemble Tactus is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly offers workshops and masterclasses for young musicians and has collaborated with schools and community organizations to bring early music to a wider audience. Overall, Ensemble Tactus is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the early music scene in Canada. With its commitment to excellence in performance and education, the ensemble is sure to continue to inspire and delight audiences for years to come.More....
