Greg Lawson is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1964, and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a classical pianist. From a young age, Lawson was exposed to a wide range of musical genres, which sparked his interest in music. Lawson began his musical journey by learning to play the violin at the age of six. He showed a natural talent for the instrument and quickly progressed. He went on to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where he honed his skills and developed his passion for classical music. After completing his studies, Lawson began his professional career as a violinist. He played with various orchestras and ensembles, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the Scottish Ensemble. He also worked as a session musician, recording music for films, television, and commercials. In addition to his work as a violinist, Lawson is also a composer and arranger. He has written music for a variety of ensembles, including string quartets, orchestras, and choirs. His compositions have been performed by some of the world's leading musicians and have received critical acclaim. One of the highlights of Lawson's career was his collaboration with the Scottish Ensemble. He joined the ensemble in 1993 as a violinist and later became its artistic director. In addition to his work with the Scottish Ensemble, Lawson has collaborated with many other musicians and ensembles. He has worked with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Sinfonietta, among others. He has also performed with renowned soloists such as Nigel Kennedy and Nicola Benedetti. Lawson's versatility as a musician is evident in his work with the band Moishe's Bagel. The band, which blends klezmer, jazz, and classical music, has gained a loyal following and has performed at festivals and venues around the world. Lawson plays violin and viola in the band and also contributes to its arrangements and compositions.
