David Ellis was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Ellis showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Ellis received his formal music education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the tutelage of some of the most renowned classical musicians of the time. He graduated with honors in 2007 and went on to pursue a career as a concert pianist. Ellis made his debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2008, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was met with critical acclaim, and Ellis was hailed as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the years, Ellis has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Ellis's most notable performances was his rendition of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2012. The performance was recorded and released as a live album, which went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. In addition to his performances, Ellis is also a prolific composer and has written several pieces for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestras. His compositions have been performed by some of the most renowned musicians in the world and have been featured in several film scores. Ellis has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award in 2010 and the International Classical Music Award for Best Solo Instrumental Recording in 2015. He was also appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2018 for his services to classical music. Despite his success, Ellis remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
