Al Petteway is a guitarist and composer who has recorded over a dozen albums of original music and has won several Grammy Awards for his work in the New Age and folk music genres. Together, McFarlane and Petteway formed Skye Consort with the goal of exploring the rich musical traditions of Scotland and Ireland. They were soon joined by several other musicians, including Chris Norman on wooden flute and bagpipes, Robin Bullock on guitar and mandolin, and Andrea Hoag on fiddle. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their virtuosic performances and their ability to bring new life to traditional music. They have performed at major festivals and concert halls throughout the United States and Europe, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland. One of Skye Consort's most notable performances was their appearance at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 2008. The festival, which celebrates the cultural heritage of different regions and communities, featured Skye Consort as part of its program on Scotland.
