Rube Bloom was an American composer and pianist who was born on April 24, 1902, in New York City. He was the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants and grew up in a musical family. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a singer. Bloom began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Bloom's formal music education began at the age of 12 when he enrolled in the Institute of Musical Art in New York City. He studied piano with Percy Grainger and composition with Ernest Bloch. Bloom was a gifted student and quickly became known for his musical abilities. He won several awards and scholarships during his time at the Institute of Musical Art. After completing his studies, Bloom began his career as a pianist and composer. He played in various jazz bands and worked as a staff pianist for several radio stations. Bloom's music was heavily influenced by jazz, and he became known for his unique blend of classical and jazz styles. One of Bloom's most famous compositions is "Fools Rush In," which he wrote in 1940. The song became a hit and has since been recorded by numerous artists, including Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Bloom also wrote several other popular songs, including "Day In, Day Out" and "Give Me the Simple Life." In addition to his work as a composer, Bloom was also a successful pianist. He played with several jazz bands, including those led by Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. Bloom was known for his virtuosic piano playing and his ability to improvise. Bloom's career was cut short when he died of a heart attack on March 30, 1976, at the age of 73. However, his music continues to be celebrated and performed today.
